    Aperol Spritz...a Venetian Cocktail

    December 29, 2015 by Phil 2 Comments

This refreshing Aperol Spritz an Italian wine-based cocktail is popular in both Italy and here in the United States!

While in Venice during springtime earlier this year, Deb and I spent our days strolling alongside the canals. Passing through piazzas lined with sidewalk cafés and neighborhood bars, we noticed, especially in the afternoons, many people sitting and enjoying a bright orange colored drink, always served in a red wine sized glass.

Aperol Spritz cocktail on a counter with a bottle of Aperol and sliced oranges in a bowl.

Curiosity got the best of us and we had to find out what it was...an aperitif, simply called a Spritz.

We remembered later, that this was a "must try" cocktail recommended by our friend's son, Eric, who had just spent a semester abroad in Venice. He was right, it was very refreshing and from that day on, it was the drink Deb ordered every night during our cocktail hour!

Considered a digestive, Aperol is the perfect addition to a cocktail before or after a meal, and since we ate our way through Italy, it was just what we needed...daily!

Since we've returned, I've made it regularly here at home. The ingredients for this Aperol Spritz are simple and easy to come by. Give it a try, it may be your favorite too!

Brenda the Aperol has a distinct taste, not strong but bold. I loved it from the 1st sip! You're right...sipping it at a sidewalk cafe with amazing sights around you, nothing better!

This looks like it's worth a try but sipping the orange drink while in Italy sounds even better. In the meantime, we will add this to our grocery list. Thanks. Cin cin 😉
