Vacation Time!
Taking a vacation this summer? With the kids? (Well, let's be real...if you're taking the kids, it's a trip. Without the kids it's a vacation!) Anyway, I digress, vacations are expensive, especially if you take the kids, and it's always nice to find sites and activities that don't add more than necessary to the cost of the trip.
Money Magazine has done some of the legwork and found 20 tourist spots around the U.S. that are worth your hard-earned dollars. Plus, they've listed 5 attractions that you are better off reading about than spending your money to visit.
Gr8 Tip when Traveling with Kids:
If your kids don't already have their own money from allowance or chores, specify a fixed dollar amount at the beginning of the trip that they are allowed to spend on souvenirs, candy and gum. You then have the right to say, "Yes, of course, you can have it. If that's the choice you are making for your money." That way they learn a little about choices and budgeting...good skills for anyone to learn at a young age!
If your vacation takes you to the Pacific Northwest (or PNW in the local vernacular), you may want to check out this lovely little artsy town. The scenery on the drive there is spectacular, with lots of roadside stands (and factory outlets!). Check out Day Trippin' to Edison for all the info.
And if you're sticking around town and running the kids here and there, try this tasty and easy breakfast dish. The kids will love Debbie's Breakfast Hashbrown Cups.
You say you are looking for more meatless meals? Look no further! Kyle's delicious salad dressing is perfect on this Warm Goat Cheese Salad. A Gr8 light summer meal or the perfect accompaniment when you need to fancy up the salad course!
Oh no! It's raining so we can't barbecue! Take that steak and make this throw-back dish...remember Beef Stroganoff? As good as it ever was, this dish will satisfy everyone in the family (except the vegetarians!). But I used to tell my kids, if dinner isn't something you will eat, I'm not a short order cook, you are welcome to cook your own or make a sandwich. I know, I know, mean mom here!
We hope you are enjoying your summer!
